Cervinia-Valtournenche is one of the largest ski centers in the northwest of Italy, on the border with Switzerland. The town of Breuil-Cervinia itself is situated at an impressive altitude of 2,050 m a.s.l., at the foot of the Matterhorn (4,478 m a.s.l.), while Valtournenche at an altitude of 1,524 m a.s.l. The ski runs on the Plateau Rosa glacier allow you to ski all year round, and the "lower" sections of the resort open its doors in October. The resort is connected by the glacier and the Theodul Pass with the Swiss ski resort of Zermatt and by the Colle Cime Bianche with the Valtournenche ski resort, which accounts for over 300 km of pistes in total. Downhill runs at an altitude of 1,524-3,899 m a.s.l. are among the highest located in Europe. From the top of Klein Matterhorn we can admire the views of Mont Blanc or Monterosa, and at its foot we can find the highest located snow park in Europe. There is a common ski pass in the resorts, which, at an additional cost, also allows you to ski on the Swiss side.

SnowSpot reviews: Zermatt-Cervinia
As the highest situated resort in Europe, Zermatt-Breuil-Cervinia-Valtournenche is, on paper, quite the attraction for the ski enthusiast. The lifts on the Plateau Rosa glacier are open nearly year-round, and the thickness of snow cover rarely dips below a meter. Still, it remains an unpopular choice among skiers, and so we set out to find why.
